Gideon Bowdish, a Mayflower Descendant March 16th, 2007

Source: Mayflower Families Through Five Generation, Vol 12, pg 530; by Ralph Wood, Jr;Picton Press

The mother of Gideon Bowdish (b. 11 Jul 1748) was Mary Hart (b. 7 Nov 1715, d. aft 1772). Mary Hart’s Mayflower descent is Sarah Tabar, Mary Tomson, Mary Cooke, Francis Cooke. “Francis Cooke was born, probably in England, and probably after August 1582, and died at Plymouth, Massachusetts on 7 April 1663,’above 80′. Francis married (intention in Leyden, Holland 30 June 1603) to Hester Mahieu. Hester was born, probably in Canterbury, England, between 1582 [assuming her last child was born about 1626 and that she was the no older than 44], and 1588 [asuming she was at least 15 years of age at marriage], died before 18 December 1675…”. Francis Cooke was one of the signers of the Mayflower Compact which can be found verbatim in Bradford’s History of Plimoth Plantation. Thus, the descendants of Gideon Bowdish are also descendants of Francis Cooke. As documented on RelativelyConnected.com, a daughter of Gideon Bowdish, Ruth Bowdish, married Zina Tripp abt 1810.
